RADIESSE® Treatment

What is Collagen?

Plentiful in youthful skin, collagen exists in the dermis as connective tissue, and it is what gives young skin its lively, supple look. During the aging process, existing collagen fibers break down, and the skin’s ability to make more collagen is diminished. This process results in loss of elasticity and firmness, so skin starts to wrinkle and sag.

What is RADIESSE®?

Approved by the FDA for cosmetic use, RADIESSE® is a dermal filler that stimulates the production of collagen and is primarily used for areas around the chin, cheeks, mouth and nose. Similar to a substance found naturally in the body, RADIESSE® is a biocompatible, water-based gel suspension of calcium hydroxylapatite that plumps up wrinkles and restores facial volume. In addition, RADIESSE® is hypoallergenic, so allergy testing is not required prior to treatment.*

How Does RADIESSE® Work?

Once injected, RADIESSE® works both immediately and over a period of time, to restore volume to treatment areas and stimulate the body’s production of collagen. An especially good treatment for the lower areas of the face, RADIESSE® removes “marionette” and smile lines and lifts sagging jowls.*

How Long Does Treatment Take?

Performed in the doctor’s office, RADIESSE® treatment typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour, so it is easy to schedule in between other appointments.*

Is Anesthesia Required?

For a more comfortable treatment, RADIESSE® is infused with lidocaine, so anesthesia is not required or necessary. However, patients with a low pain tolerance may be given a topical anesthetic to ease discomfort.*

RADIESSE® Recovery Time

As a non-invasive procedure, RADIESSE® recovery time is minimal. However, patients are advised to avoid alcohol, strenuous activity or intense sun for at least 24 hours after treatment.*

RADIESSE® Side Effects

As with any injection, temporary side effects from RADIESSE® can include bruising, redness, itching, tenderness or swelling, but they typically subside within seven days. The doctor will explain all possible side effects prior to treatment.

Is Preparation Necessary for RADIESSE® Treatment?

To lessen the possibility of bleeding or bruising, patients should refrain from the use of alcohol or anti-inflammatory drugs for at least one week prior to treatment.

Approved by the FDA, RADIESSE® treatment is considered to be completely safe when administered by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon.

How Long Do Results Last?

In approximately two years, the ingredients of RADIESSE® are absorbed by the body, so treatment should be repeated to maintain optimum results.*
